Up to 216,500 trees were planted around Dubai in 2024, a 17 percent increase from 2023 in a huge green achievement. According to the Dubai Municipality, this corresponds to an average of 600 trees being planted per day last year.
Thanks to landscaping and afforestation initiatives, the emirate’s green areas also grew by 391.5 hectares which is a 57% increase from 2023. In addition, the Dubai Municipality replaced 45 million seasonal flowers over the course of three cycles throughout the year and planted 5.3 million flower and ornamental plant seedlings as part of its larger greening programs.
The Dubai Municipality planted a wide variety of trees including decorative plants like neem, olive, Indian jasmine and other types of palm trees as well as native species like Ghaf, Sidr and Samar.
To improve the emirate’s green canopy, evergreen plants like Acacia franciana, Bismarckia, Poinciana, Pongamia and Washingtonia have also been introduced.
Up to 165 beautifying projects were carried out in residential and urban neighbourhoods, public parks, bridge intersections, main and secondary highways, recreational facilities and family squares as part of the Dubai Green Project.
