Careem Pay and Purpl announce partnership to ease money transfers to Lebanon

Careem Pay – part of the Careem Everything app – and Purpl – a Lebanese fintech startup – have announced a partnership to facilitate instant, affordable money transfers to Lebanon as the people there navigate a tough period.

The recently launched international remittance option lets money be transferred from Dirhams to US Dollars from a Careem account to a mobile number linked to Purpl in Lebanon, eliminating the need for a recipient bank account.

Careem Pay and Purpl making remittances more accessible

There is an affordable sending fee of up to 1.5% and transfer times of approximately 15 minutes. Beneficiaries can take out cash from Banque Libano-Francaise (BLF) ATMs at zero fees or from OMT stores at minimal fees of just 0.5%.

Careem Pay seeks to make remittances more accessible to communities in need. The latest option is designed to address the ongoing financial challenges faced by the Lebanese people, offering a solution for unbanked users or those holding refugee documentation.

Vice President of Careem Pay, Mo Elsaadi, expressed his happiness at making it easier for the Lebanese community in the UAE to transfer money to those in need back home. Their partnership is enabling faster and more reliable transactions.

Careem Everything app for the Middle East

Careem Pay is already offering instant transfers to India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Europe and the UK. To initiate an international transaction, you just need to open the Careem mobile application and select ‘Send Money’ on the home screen.

To date, Careem is operating in more than 70 cities across 10 countries. It is building the Everything app for the Middle East, making it easier to move around, manage payments, order food and groceries, and much more.
