Canada has sent an official invitation to the United Arab Emirates to take part in the forthcoming G7 Summit, scheduled to be held from June 15 to 17, 2025, in Kananaskis, Alberta. The invitation demonstrates Canada’s intention to engage prominent non-G7 countries in the main discussions on the world stage, especially concerning economic, environmental, and geopolitical challenges.
At the same time, Brazil has been preparing to host the COP30 climate summit in Belém this November. To facilitate this effort, Brazil has announced the appointment of Dan Ioschpe, CEO of Iochpe-Maxion, as its climate champion and he will be at the helm of efforts to enhance engagement from the private sector towards meeting the commitments of the Paris Agreement on climate action.
Ioschpe’s appointment appears to be driven by Brazil’s desire to advocate for more climate-specific investments and spur voluntary green initiatives from companies. Brazil is also expected to be pushing for better financing options and a larger role for developing countries to be included in climate dialogues.
Together, these actions of Canada and Brazil show an increase in focus on inclusive diplomacy. Canada wants to extend its G7 engagement, and Brazil is preparing to generate momentum for meaningful climate action at COP30 as both countries are seeking to increase global collaboration on these critical issues.
