Ballon d’Or 2024: Vinicius Jr breaks silence after Rodri ranks first

The Ballon d’Or 2024 night in Paris certainly belonged to Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri. Rodri became the top scorer in the prestigious race, beating Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. French magazine France Football had organised the event.

Rodri delivered an outstanding performance during the 2023-2024 season, helping his club secure the English Premier League title for the fourth time in a series. He also played a key role for the Spanish national team, contributing to their victory at Euro 2024 in Germany.

The 28-year-old midfielder has been instrumental, providing defensive stability and crucial passes for both his club and country, totalling 14 assists in all competitions. He also scored 10 goals during the 2023-2024 season.

Rodri has become the first Premier League player to receive the Ballon d’Or since legendary soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo did so in 2008 during his time at Manchester United. He is currently playing as part of a Saudi club.

Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr is prominent for his fight against racism in sport, besides his brilliant performances on the field. He took to X on Tuesday after the Ballon d’Or announcement, saying: “I’ll do it 10x if I have to. They are not ready.”

Vinicius’ teammate in Real Madrid and English midfielder secured the third spot. Real Madrid has been recognised the men’s club of the year. Barcelona star and Spanish footballer Lamine Yamal received the Kopa Trophy for the best male player under 21.
