apple launches imac, macbook pro notebooks, and faster chips

During an online event on Monday, October 30, Apple revealed three new chips along with new MacBook Pro and iMac computers. According to the tech giant, its graphics processing units (GPUs) have been redesigned. In this regard, chipmaker Nvidia controls the market.

The M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips, along with the new computers, were introduced at an online event that primarily catered to professional users.

The price of a 14-inch MacBook Pro laptop in the US is Dh6,899, while a 16-inch model costs Dh10,499 at launch. Starting at Dh5,299 is the new iMac desktop featuring the M3 family of chips. While some will ship later in November, others will be available the following week.

According to preliminary data from IDC, Apple has experienced a revitalization in its Mac business, nearly doubling its market share to nearly 11% since 2020 when it broke with Intel and began using its custom-designed chips as the brains of the machines.

It demonstrated a new secure screen-sharing feature on Monday, aimed at business users, enabling them to access their computers from a distance.

The company’s proprietary chips, which leverage Arm Holdings design technology, have improved the battery life and, in certain cases, the performance of its Macs relative to Windows-based computers.

24-INCH IMAC WITH M3: Orders are now being accepted, and the product will be available in Apple Stores and Authorised Resellers on Tuesday, November 7.

  • The price of an iMac with an 8-core GPU is AED 5,499, and it comes in silver, pink, blue, and green colors.
  • The price of the iMac with a 10-core GPU is AED 6,339, and it comes in the following colors: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver.

Apple has integrated both components in its silicon chips, which it claims gives it better performance than its competitors, unlike other laptop makers who might combine an Intel CPU and an Nvidia GPU.

Qualcomm has stepped up its efforts to produce Arm-based chips for Windows in response to Apple’s market disruption; the company last week announced plans to release a chip that is both faster and more energy-efficient than some of Apple’s offerings. According to a Reuters story from last week, Nvidia intends to enter the PC market as early as 2025.

Apple’s new machines are aimed directly at software developers, designers, and musicians. At one point, the company highlighted that researchers studying artificial intelligence could use the way the machine uses memory to create chatbots and other artificial intelligence products that are often limited by the amount of data that can fit in the computer’s memory.

Additionally, Apple made changes to its entire lineup of computers that may influence corporate buyers’ purchasing decisions.

The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros are now on sale and will be available for purchase at Apple Stores and Authorised Resellers on Tuesday, November 7.

  • The price of the 14-inch Macbook Pro, which is offered in silver and space grey, is AED 6,899.
  • Space Black and Silver 16-inch MacBook Pro models are available for AED 10,499, starting at that price.

This will probably make it easier to choose between the company’s model lines, allowing customers to choose between the Dh6,899 starting price for MacBook Pro models and Apple’s productivity-focused MacBook Air models, which top out at Dh5,299.

For Apple’s fiscal year 2022, the Mac brought in $40.18 billion, or roughly 11% of total revenue. Sales this year have decreased in tandem with the rest of the PC industry, which has experienced a post-pandemic downturn, even though they were up 14% from the previous fiscal year.

The new chips, according to Apple, will be the first for desktops and laptops to use 3-nanometer manufacturing technology, improving the chips’ efficiency per watt of electricity used.

Although Apple has not disclosed the manufacturer of the chips, experts surmise that it is Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., which also produces chips for the most expensive iPhone 15 models using the same technology.

Apple executives played up how much speed customers would notice by switching to devices with Apple’s chips by comparing the performance of the new MacBooks and iMac machines to older Apple machines with chips from Intel throughout the event.
