The Grand Annual International Shooting Championship is set to begin this Saturday in Kuwait, under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The championship which is organized by Kuwait Shooting Sport Club will last a week and take place in the presence of nearly 220 shooters from 17 Arab and international countries.
Duaij Al-Otaibi, Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee and President of the Kuwait and Arab Shooting Federations expressed that it is an incredible honor to host such a great sporting event. He also extended his appreciation to His Highness the Amir, thanking him for his kind patronage and emphasizing the significant role of the championship in lifting the technical levels of Kuwaiti shooters as well as furthering the development of the sport in Kuwait.
The championship will have shotgun disciplines such as skeet and trap for men and women as well as mixed team events. Al-Otaibi stated that the goal is the tournament’s evolution into the premier event for the sport in the region and the Asian continent with international shooters and officials attending. Significantly, the tournament will be visited by the International Shooting Sport Federation Secretary General and several heads of continental federations.
A large delegation numbering about 120 Kuwaiti marksmen will take part in the five events. The club has emphasized engaging a maximum number of domestic competitors to gain them priceless experience and readiness for future international and regional championships. Al-Otaibi was optimistic that the Kuwaiti squad was ready to compete fiercely with global champions and vie for the best accolades.
Preparations have been carefully completed and the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex has all the necessary equipment to conduct the competitions. The opening ceremony will be attended by Sheikh Sabah Bader Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governor, in representation of the sponsor tournament.
The smooth running of this championship is due to the support from the General Sports Authority and other state agencies as well as the hard work of volunteers.
