The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in Abu Dhabi, UAE, has launched an awareness campaign to address the issue of stray dogs in the emirate.
The campaign aims to promote responsible pet ownership and protect public health and safety while ensuring proper care for the increasing number of stray animals.
The initiative is being carried out through social media platforms and seeks to educate residents about safe practices for handling stray or lost dogs. It emphasizes the importance of preventing pet abandonment, which contributes to the stray dog problem in residential areas.
The DMT encourages pet owners to keep their dogs within their premises and avoid leaving food waste around, which can attract stray animals. They also encourage the sterilization of dogs as an effective measure to manage the growing population of stray dogs.
Starting from 2024, the municipalities affiliated with the DMT will take on the responsibility of managing stray and lost animals.
This includes reserving and sterilizing stray animals, providing guidance on handling them, and conducting educational and awareness campaigns for the community.
