The Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has recognized and honored the winners of the Urban Treasures Awards.
This initiative, now in its second year, aims to acknowledge establishments that have made a lasting impact on Abu Dhabi’s cultural scene.
The awards ceremony took place at the Cultural Foundation, where Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, presented awards to 15 outstanding businesses from various parts of the emirate.
The winners of the Urban Treasures Awards include a diverse range of establishments such as cafeterias, bakeries, restaurants, jewelers, fabric stores, and tailors.
Some of the recognized businesses include Abu Al Afwal Cafeteria, The Green Branch, Al Masaood Jewellery, Chhappan Bhog, Badie Optical, Cairo Textile Showroom, and more.
The Urban Treasures initiative focuses on businesses that have been thriving for at least two decades, aiming to highlight their significance in Abu Dhabi’s cultural heritage.
By recognizing and preserving these cherished establishments, the awards align with DCT Abu Dhabi’s Modern Heritage Initiative, which aims to safeguard the emirate’s recent history.
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak expressed his pleasure in celebrating these exceptional local establishments, emphasizing that they are not just businesses but integral parts of Abu Dhabi’s story.
These long-standing establishments have witnessed the city’s growth and contributed to the character and vibrancy of the neighborhoods. They hold a special place in the memories of citizens and long-term residents.
The Urban Treasures accolade serves as a way to show gratitude for their social impact and encourages residents and visitors to continue supporting and engaging with these businesses for their continued success.
The nominations for the Urban Treasures Awards 2023 were open to the public. The committee received an overwhelming response with 460 submissions.
Each establishment was carefully reviewed based on specific criteria, which made the selection of this year’s remarkable winners.
