Did Oppenheimer Actor Cillian Murphy Take Inspiration From Mythology?
Cillian Murphy, the actor portraying J. Robert Oppenheimer in the biopic “Oppenheimer,” drew inspiration from mythology, specifically the Bhagavad Gita.
In preparation for his role, Murphy read the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred Hindu scripture, to gain a deeper understanding of Oppenheimer’s mindset.
Oppenheimer himself had learned Sanskrit and found solace in the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita throughout his life.
Murphy described the text as beautiful and inspiring, and he mentioned that it provided consolation to Oppenheimer during challenging times.
The quote “I have become death, the destroyer of worlds,” famously attributed to Oppenheimer, was borrowed from the Bhagavad Gita.
Director Christopher Nolan also commented on the film “Oppenheimer” and its exploration of the invention that shaped human history.
He drew a parallel between the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) and the atomic bomb, which is the cautionary aspect of Oppenheimer’s story. Nolan emphasized the importance of learning from the past and approaching new technologies with careful consideration.
