The Thread app, launched by an American multinational technology conglomerate Meta Platforms, has registered 10 million sign-ups in the first seven hours of its launch, according to Meta’s chief executive Mark Zuckerberg.
Zuckerberg already has 340,000 followers on the Thread app. Created by Meta’s Instagram team, the app is free to use and is available on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
Meta’s chief wrote on Threads and on Facebook, “Threads is here. Let’s do this. The goal is to keep it friendly as it expands. I think it will ultimately be the key to its success. That’s one reason why Twitter never succeeded as much as I think it should have, and we want to do it differently.”
Instagram users can log into Threads. The app allows social media users to post threads, reply to others and follow other profiles of their interest. Anyone can upload posts or updates that are up to 500 characters. People can also upload photos or videos up to 5 minutes long.
Threads in linked to Instagram users’ accounts. According to Meta, a person can “easily share a Threads post to their Instagram story.” Threads can include text, links, photos, videos or a combination of them.

How to use Threads
A person must have an Instagram account to sign up on Threads. The app requires Instagram login credentials to sign in. A person can follow the same accounts they already follow on Instagram. A Thread post can be shared as a link on other social networking sites.
Reportedly, the app has been launched to rival Twitter. Some investors called the new app a “Twitter killer.” However, Jack Dorsey, a co-founder and former CEO of Twitter, criticized the data policy of the app. He said that the new app by Meta can collect user’s contact information, browsing history, health and fitness information, purchase history and location.
