UAE Launches Nationwide Early Childhood Week to Support Families

The UAE is on the verge of celebrating the first national Early Childhood Week, which will see family wellbeing and children’s early learning more visible all over the country. It will be conducted in each emirate from November 16 to 22, 2026, during the duration of the UAE Year of the Family programme.

The national initiative expands and continues the work of the Early Childhood Week that is currently in place in Abu Dhabi, throughout the country. It strives to engage the child in a learning and playable environment with people around them and provides some available space for parents and caregivers to share quality time with children.

Focus on Families and Early Development

The programme puts the family in the driver’s seat in the early development of children and integrates the sectors of Social, Health, Education and Sports. The activities and experiences in the community aim to foster a close bond between children, parents/caregivers and the broader support network.

The UAE’s family program, which creates the idea that strong and responsible families are a vital component of social development, infuses the focus. The government has also implemented ‘Family First’ measures to improve public spaces for families.

Public Spaces to Become Learning Environments

On National week, the public space will be available for activities that promote children and families learning together, playing together and interacting together. The method is designed to ensure that early-childhood development is accessible; it is to be expected in a variety of regular community settings.

The initiative also follows the success of the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Week’s success. The 2025 edition involved over 300 community activities carried out by more than 70 partners with over 65,000 participants, showing the capacity for a large community engagement.

Importance of the Early Years

The UAE has put great focus on early years development to influence children’s health, learning and wellbeing. The Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority has also pointed out that the first three years of life are pivotal in brain development and thus highlight the need for nurturing and supportive family and community settings.

The national week is then a time to promote awareness of positive parenting and early learning and healthy interaction of the family. It also helps to provide opportunities for groups from various sectors to make a contribution to children’s development.

Supporting the UAE’s Year of the Family

The launch coincides with the UAE’s Year of the Family approach in 2026 which focuses more than ever on developing strong family relationships and caring family environments for children.

The UAE is extending the Early Childhood Week to the whole country, working to engage governments, communities and families in a focus on the formative years. The theme of the November programme is to make the activities accessible for the family members while promoting early childhood development which is a national priority.
