Qatar PM Discusses Bilateral Ties With 5 Foreign Ministers at UNGA 81

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, met the foreign ministers of Mexico, Canada, Cyprus, Estonia and Austria on the fringes of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

In the bilateral cooperation and strengthening relations part of the meetings, the ministry of foreign affairs of Qatar highlighted issues of mutual interest with respect to the region and international sphere.

Five Bilateral Meetings at UNGA 81

Sheikh Mohammed was able to meet Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs Roberto Velasco, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, Estonia Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna and Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger.

During the discussions emphasis was placed on the current and future possibilities for cooperation. The UNGA 81 agenda is further focussed on the issue of security, stability and cooperation on a broader scale where Qatar will engage.

Regional Developments and Diplomatic Coordination

The meetings happened while Qatar was getting ready to join in diplomatic dialogues with the General Assembly. Qatar’s participation at UNGA 81 highlights the areas of peace and security, dialogue, mediation and de-escalation,” the Ministry said.

The island of Qatar has attracted the attention of its diplomatic sector in regional developments. Since the meeting the prime minister has said he has raised this issue with the country’s top leaders repeatedly, urging them to maintain coordination and work towards easing tensions and securing stability and security in the region.

GCC Coordination at UNGA 81

Sheikh Mohammed also attended Bilateral Meetings and participated in GCC Foreign Ministers’ Coordination Meeting.
