Saudi Arabia Announces Plans for New Freedom of Information Law

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is gearing up to enact a single Freedom of Information Law, as it is one of the most important milestones in the Kingdom’s digital governance framework. Chairman of the board of Directors, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. In his keynote address at the Ministry of Media press conference in Riyadh along with the launch of LEAP 2026, Abdullah Alswaha said that the legislation had been planned.

The intended law aims at establishing clear guidelines on public information provision with routes of access that preserve national data sovereignty and safeguard data which are confidential in the sphere of public administration and institutions. It can give businesses, researchers and technology developers decreased uncertainties to work with government information.
