The Sultanate has now officially announced a landmark project to build the mammoth infrastructure of sustainable transport of fuel. This project is led by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and it entails the creation of a large conduit system that will aid the transportation of environment-friendly energy to the world markets. In particular, the project will connect the great hubs within Al Duqm and Salalah, connecting them to industrial areas and global ports at the same time. The objective of this move is to cement the position of the country as a leading exporter of carbon-neutral resources to the world and also address the increasing demand of clean fuel prompted by the rest of the world.
Scaling the Green Hydrogen Pipeline Infrastructure
This strategic Green Hydrogen Pipeline is the backbone of a broader national ecosystem. The project is expected to be hundreds of kilometers operational by 2030 and have an efficient reach of the localized production to industrial off-takers. This high level of infrastructure minimizes logistical expenses and increases the upstream project that is currently being developed to be bankable. The government is putting in place powerful financial systems to boost the attractiveness of foreign investments so as to ensure that the infrastructure is in tandem with the fast expanding domestic renewable sector.
OQ Gas Networks Driving the Energy Transition
Managed by OQ Gas Networks, the project is a pivotal element of the country’s Energy Transition strategy. In addition to mere transportation, the network will incorporate carbon capture technologies to further decarbonize hard to abate industries. This is an integrated strategy that is in line with the 2050 net-zero goals and the Vision 2040. Through the reuse of the experience of the natural gas industry, the project will assure smooth transition towards a sustainable economy besides delivering high-value employment and promoting regional energy security throughout the Gulf.
