As part of its “UAE stands with Lebanon” campaign, the United Arab Emirates has dispatched its 23rd plane to Lebanon with relief including 35 tonnes of medical supplies.
Medical equipment, devices and other necessities required in hospitals and health centres throughout Lebanon are included in the important help. President Sheikh Mohamed started the $100 million relief program in reaction to Israel’s invasion and ongoing airstrikes, which resulted in thousands of fatalities, the eviction of over a million people, and extensive building destruction.
The UAE Aid Agency’s vice chairman, Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, emphasised the nation’s resolve to assist its beleaguered citizens. “The need for medical essentials, devices and equipment … [is] greater than ever before,” he stated. He stated that the UAE is “providing aid to the people who are in dire need of it, after consulting concerned local and international authorities and relief agencies in Lebanon” .
On January 12, the Emirates dispatched an aid vessel to the port of Beirut bearing 3,000 tonnes of vital relief supplies. According to a Monday announcement, a humanitarian campaign in the United Arab Emirates for Lebanon raised around Dh200 million and resulted in the delivery of 6,000 tonnes of vital aid to the people most affected by the murderous conflict.
Through the website of the Emirates Red Crescent, the government’s charity arm and many UAE banks connected to the campaign, the public made cash pledges as part of the project which ended in the first week of January.
After a year of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel, a ceasefire agreement was reached in November last year. Lebanon’s former army chief Gen Joseph Aoun was elected as president, and the UAE announced plans to reopen its embassy in Beirut, which had been closed for three years. President Sheikh Mohamed congratulated and wished the new Lebanese leader success in leading the country.
