The nation has a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech according to the Public Prosecution. According to the Public Prosecution, hate speech in the United Arab Emirates carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison or a fine of Dh 500,000 to Dh 1 million.
The agency reiterated the harsh punishments for anyone found guilty of inciting hatred in a video that was uploaded to Instagram underscoring the nation’s zero-tolerance policy on hate speech.
Promoting hate speech via any medium including internet platforms is punishable by harsh legal penalties under Article 7 of Federal Decree Law No. 34 of 2023 on Combatting Discrimination, Hatred and Extremism. In addition to a fine of Dh 500,000 to Dh 1 million, offenders face a minimum one-year jail sentence. Or any one of these.
