Following discussions facilitated by the United Arab Emirates, Russia’s defense ministry announced that 25 prisoners of war had been exchanged with Ukraine. According to the defense ministry, the Russian prisoners of war were currently in Belarus getting medical and psychological assistance before being sent back to Russia for additional treatment.
Volodymyr Zelensky took social media X previously called twitter and wrote, “Bringing our people home is what Ukraine is constantly working on, and we will not stop until we bring all of our people back.”
He added, “Today, 25 more of our people are returning home to Ukraine. These are our military and civilians. Among them are the defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal, as well as of our Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. Many of them have severe injuries and illnesses, and each will receive all the necessary medical care.”
He thanked UAE in his X post by saying that he is “grateful to the team that searches for our people and organizes this important work. We extend our gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for their assistance in making today’s event possible.”
Russia-Ukraine Previous Exchange:
The previous exchange between Russia and Ukraine also took place with the help of the UAE on December 30th 2024. Volodymyr Zelensky announced last time about the release of 189 Ukrainian detainees including two civilians and members of the armed forces, border guards and national guards. He expressed gratitude to the UAE for its assistance in negotiating the deal in his X (Previously called Twitter) post on 2024 as well.
He Wrote, “I thank the team that is doing everything to bring our people home. I also thank all our partners including the UAE who are helping us with this.”
