Oman-Belarus Relations: A New Era of Diplomatic and Economic Partnerships

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Roman Golovchenko has arrived in the Sultanate of Oman for a three-day official visit. Upon his arrival at the Royal Airport, the welcoming party for the guest and his delegation was led by Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, the Foreign Minister. Sayyid Badr greeted the guest and expressed his hope for a successful visit and a pleasant stay. The guests were also greeted upon arrival by Sayyid Saud Hilal Al Busaidi (the Governor of Muscat), Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi (the Minister of Agriculture), Fisheries and Water Resources (Head of the Mission of Honour), Hamoud Salim Al Tuwaih the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Russian Federation and non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Belarus and the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to the Sultanate of Oman.

Al Tuwaih mentioned to the Oman News Agency (ONA) that the visit of Roman Golovchenko, Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus to Oman presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen the ties between the two countries, improve collaboration and share knowledge in the areas of economy, trade, culture, education and investments. He also stated that, with the Belarus PM’s visit, both nations are eager to broaden their bilateral cooperation. “The visit will pave the way for realising the aspirations of the two countries’ peoples. It is in pursuance of steps that have been taken by the two countries during the past years,” he stated.

Al Tuwaih noted that Oman and Belarus established bilateral relations on July 23, 1992. He mentioned that the President of Belarus paid an official visit to Oman in April 2007 and was received by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said. Al Tuwaih emphasised that both countries continue to exchange visits at parliamentary and political levels and regularly hold political consultations. He also confirmed that Oman and Belarus are exploring opportunities to expand their bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, technology, energy and alternative energy. 
At present, bilateral cooperation encompasses education and research through student and researcher exchanges as well as innovation, technology and cultural exchange. Additionally, both nations have jointly organised cultural events and taken steps to support the tourism sector, aiming to expand investments in this area. Al Tuwaih informed Oman News Agency (ONA) that there is ongoing collaboration between the Omani National Museum and Belarusian museums and expressed hope for increased coordination in the future.
