G42 and Microsoft are the two companies that are aiming to improve the quality of artificial intelligence and also make it safer. They are planning to open two new research centers in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Such centers will assist in ensuring that AI is utilized in the right manner and assist in solving large global issues.

The first center would be to ensure that there is accountability for the use of artificial intelligence. It means that the use of AI should be done in such a manner that it does not harm anybody and is not biased in its operations. This center is being developed by G42 and Microsoft. The UAE’s Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC) backs this idea.

This center will:

– Identify and nurture good techniques for applying artificial intelligence

– Establish guidelines for the use of AI as a protective measure

– Assist the countries in the Middle East and other developing regions to use AI appropriately

This center will have expertise from universities as well as from the companies. They will teach others what they discover about developing artificial intelligence safely for people across the globe.

The second center is a part of Microsoft’s AI for Good initiative. It is the first time Microsoft is inaugurating one of such labs in the Middle East region. The lab will use AI to help with big problems like:

– Fighting climate change

– Reducing poverty

– The creation of a positive and beneficial impact on the global society

This lab will partner with another team from Nairobi, Kenya. They’ll focus on two main things:

1. Developing AI that can capture more languages particularly those that are not much utilized in technology.

2. Food and climate issues solved with the help of a search for detailed photos of the Earth with AI

Working with Local Partners

These new centers will operate in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Center for Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology. This center was established in January. They will also decide on research plans and engage with counterparts from the UAE and other countries. They desire to propel Abu Dhabi towards the front ranks of artificial intelligence and new technology.

How to Make Artificial Intelligence Safe and Useful

Both G42 and Microsoft are putting a lot of effort into ensuring that their AI is secure and beneficial. They are following guidelines that were set by Microsoft, on how to conduct Artificial Intelligence technology. These rules are now being also followed by G42. The following rules assist in preventing adverse consequences associated with the design and utilization of artificial intelligence.

The rules include:

– Thinking about how to ‘AI safely’

– Ensuring that the AI systems cannot be vulnerable to attacks

– Using AI to search for issues and then correct them

By so doing, G42 and Microsoft will be trying to prove that it is safe to develop AI in the UAE. They also want to provide more customers around the world with the usage rights of AI technology.

Peng Xiao, the boss of G42, said these new centers reflect how they would like to harness technology to address actual issues. They want to turn Abu Dhabi into a place where people develop new ideas in the sphere of Artificial Intelligence and these ideas will be beneficial and harmless for users.

Brad Smith, one of the top leaders at Microsoft, said they are doing well with G42 to ensure more persons can use Artificial Intelligence more safely. They want to strengthen the bond that exists between their companies and the respective countries.

Collaboration between Organizations for Improved AI

G42 and Microsoft struck a partnership in April this year. They are acting in accordance with regulations that both the UAE and the US governments endorse. G42 is selective with whom it partners with and ensures that every process is followed in the right manner.

They would like to take good technology where there is low technology such as in the southern region of the world. They are currently involved in one large-scale project in Kenya employing clean energy and they are on the lookout for other locations to assist.
