Dubai's New Stamp Shows Which Hotels Are Eco-Friendly

Dubai is introducing a new initiative that recognizes those hotels that are more considerate of the environment. The Dubai Sustainable Tourism Stamp certifies those hotels that meet specified criteria in sustainability. For a hotel to be awarded this stamp, it needs to achieve 19 highlights well.

What Sort of Things?

Some examples are:

– Use less water and electricity

– Turn out trash intelligently

– Teaching their workers about being eco-friendly

Who Decides?

A group of experts will look at each hotel. They’ll use rules that are used all over the world to decide if a hotel gets a stamp.

Different Levels of Stamps:

There are three types of stamps hotels can get:

1. Gold (the best)

2. Silver (very good)

3. Bronze (good)

Hotels can ask to be looked at starting August 3. They have until August 31 to ask.

Why Is This Important?

Yousuf Lootah, a leader in Dubai’s tourism department, says this will be a kind of stamp to prove which of the country’s hotels are good at looking after the environment. They hope it will make all other hotels want to look after the environment like them.

19 Sustainability Requirements

For the stamp, hotels are to perform well in 19 different areas. Although we do not have a complete list, some of the significant things that should be focused on by the hotel industries are:

Energy Efficiency: That means consuming less electricity and saving it.

Water Conservation: Not wasting any water and using it smartly.

Waste Management: Dealing with trash in an environmentally friendly way.

Staff Education: Educating hotel staff about why and the ways of being green.

Guest Involvement: Involving guests of hotels to be eco-friendly.

How Hotels Can Get the Seal

Hotels should check out the 19 criteria to ensure they are excelling in these areas.

They can start applying for the seal on Aug 3.

Applications close on August 31.

Then, a team of experts would evaluate each hotel. The best among the lot may be given a gold stamp. Then the ones that are okay, but not quite at the very top, get the silver or bronze.

Why This Stamp Matters

This could be a way would help travelers easily identify the different environmentally concerned hotels.

The stamp would encourage the hotels to keep improving in their eco-friendly ways.

It would prove that Dubai is concerned with protecting the planet while also wanting to open its doors to tourists.

Do Tourists Care About It?

Yes! A new study found that:

2 out of 3 tourists feel that being eco-friendly is an important consideration when choosing a holiday destination.

66 for every 100 would pay more for a holiday that is good for the environment.

57 for every 100 would recommend places that are good for the environment to their friends.

Other Eco-Friendly Things Dubai Is Doing

1. They have one tool helping to calculate the quantity of pollution created by hotels.

2. They initiated the Dubai Can program to reduce the consumption of plastic water bottles.
