Get ready for Korean Film Festival in UAE: Find screenings, timing and prices here

Writer SSThe annual Korean Film Festival returns to the UAE next month, exploring the theme ‘freedom’. The event will start at Box Cinemas at Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi on July 4, running until July 7. It then moves to Vox Cinemas at Dubai Festival City Mall from July 12 to 14.
The Korean Film Festival has previously been held in the UAE capital. But this year will include screenings in Dubai too for the first time since the event started in 2017. It is organised by the South Korean Embassy and the Korean Cultural Centre. Tickets are Dh35 per film.
This year’s theme will be explored through eight movies representing a variety of genres, from musical to comedy and historical drama to mystery. The event represents the rich storytelling of Korean cinema and also bolsters UAE-South Korea cultural ties.

1. Road to Boston (2024)
July 4 at 7 pm at Yas Mall
July 12 at 3 pm at Dubai Festival City Mall
Road to Boston is based on true events. This biographic sports film is set place a couple of years after South Korea’s liberation from Japan. It tells the story of Suh Yun-bok, a marathon runner preparing for the 1947 Boston Marathon, and his coach, Sohn Kee-chung.
2. Sleep (2023)
July 6 at 5 pm at Yas Mall
July 13 at 5 pm at Dubai Festival City Mall
Hyeon-soo and Soo-jin have got married just recently. One night, she discovered her husband sleepwalking, transforming into someone else with no memory of what happened the previous night. Hyeon-soo’s sleepwalking only intensifies. Can the couple find a solution?
3. Pororo Movie: Dragon Castle Adventure (2022)
July 6 at 3 pm at Yas Mall
July 13 at 3 pm at Dubai Festival City Mall
It is the seventh in the animated Pororo the Little Penguin franchise. Arthur, the dragon king, loses his power as it gets sealed in the Dragonheart. He meets Pororo and his friends, and together, go into the Porong Porong forest to help regain the Dragon Castle.
4. Noryang: Deadly Sea (2023)
July 5 at 7 pm at Yas Mall
July 12 at 7 pm at Dubai Festival City Mall
This historical action film from 2023 depicts the prominent Battle of Noryang, the last major battle to come from the Japanese invasion of Korea – lasting from 1592 to 1598. Catch on to Admiral Yi Sun-shin’s preparations for one last battle in the Noryang Strait.
5. Love Reset (2023)
July 5 at 5 pm at Yas Mall
July 12 at 5 pm at Dubai Festival City Mall
Jung-yeol and Nara get married despite heavy opposition from their families. But a couple of years later, they are seen leaving the courthouse after a 30-day divorce settlement. The couple soon gets involved in a car accident and eventually loses their memory. Interesting, right?
6. Hero (2022)
July 6 at 7 pm at Yas Mall
July 13 at 7 pm at Dubai Festival City Mall
Hero is a historical musical drama based on the stage musical of the same name. It is based on the true story of Ahn Jung-geun, a commander in the Korean Independence Army, who assassinates Ito Hirobumi, a man at the centre of Japan’s occupation of Korea.
7. Dream Palace (2023)
July 7 at 3 pm at Yas Mall
July 14 at 3 pm at Dubai Festival City Mall
This 2023 project has Hye-jeong, a widow who loses her husband in an industrial accident. She moves into Dream Palace with her son but soon learns the apartments have defects. But the residents think revealing this will cause their value to fall, so they try to silence her.
8. Alienoid Part 2: The Return to the Future (2024)
July 7 at 5 pm at Yas Mall
July 14 at 5 pm at Dubai Festival City Mall
The first part of the series was screened at last year’s Korean Film Festival. The second part picks up after the events of the first film as protagonist Lee Ahn becomes trapped in the past while trying to prevent the escape of an alien prisoner locked in a human body.
