iOS 18 has it all to make iPhone even more personal, capable and intelligent

Monday started strong. Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference takes place June 10-14 and promises an incredible time of technology and innovation. The conference provides insights into the latest technologies coming to iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS and visionOS.

Apple has introduced iOS18, a major release that promises more customisation options, improved ways for users to manage their inbox in Mail, the biggest redesign ever of the Photos app, Messages over satellite and so much more.

Your guide to most prominent features in iOS18

1. Improved customisation and capability

Through iOS18, users have new ways to customise Home Screen, Lock Screen and Control Centre. Control Centre has been redesigned to offer users easier access to many of the things they do every day, and it gets more levels of customisation and flexibility.

2. Photos gets a big update

Photos has received its biggest-ever redesign to help users easily find and relive special moments. A new carousel view presents highlights that update every day and feature favourite people, places and more. The app is customisable as everyone’s photo library is unique.

3. Messages via satellite

iOS18 introduces Messages via satellite for critical times when cellular and Wi-Fi connections are not available. It prompts users to connect to their nearest satellite right from the Messages app to send and receive texts, emoji, Tapbacks over iMessage and SMS.

4. Enhancements to Mail

Later this year, Mail is expected to introduce new ways for users to manage their inbox and stay updated. On-device categorisation organises incoming email into Primary, Transactions, Updates and Promotions, each group carrying its own relevance.

5. Major updates to Safari

It has become easier than ever to discover information through Safari, or the fastest browser on the planet. Safari can surface key information about a webpage. Users can get the gist of an article or listen to an artist’s track from an article about the song or album.

6. There’s a Passwords app too

Building on the foundation of Keychain – first introduced more than 25 years ago – the Passwords app makes it easier for users to access their passwords, verification codes and more. It also includes alerts regarding common weaknesses seen in passwords.

7. Apple Intelligence to simplify daily tasks

iOS18 also carries Apple Intelligence, the personal intelligence system for iPhone, iPad and Mac that facilitates the perfect blend of generative models and personal context to deliver intelligence that is incredibly useful and relevant, according to a press release.
