UAE PM Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid launches Mothers' Endowment ahead of Ramadan 2024

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has launched the Mothers’ Endowment campaign ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. It seeks to honour mothers in the UAE by establishing a Dh1 billion fund to support the education of millions of people.

The announcement stems from the fact that mothers are their children’s first teachers. They nurture generations and offer them knowledge required throughout life. The campaign aims to honour mothers by letting people to make donations in their mothers’ names.

Launched by the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the endowment fund plans to support the education and qualification of people in underprivileged communities across the globe, empowering them to enter the job market.

In addition, the campaign also highlights the values of honoring parents, kindness and solidarity. It further solidifies the UAE’s status in the field of charity and humanitarian initiatives, besides underlining the country’s focus on giving and generosity.

Celebrating UAE’s unique culture of generosity

Making the announcement in a post on X, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed said: “A mother is a synonym of heaven, and her satisfaction is the path to heaven. We call upon everyone – young and old, men and women – to be part of this endowment.”

“Knowledge is hope. It is the gate to a better life … [The campaign] embodies the noble value of solidarity is deeply instilled in the Emirati community and is a practical application of UAE’s culture of giving,” he concluded.

The Mother’s Endowment campaign for education support reflects the country’s ongoing efforts, since its establishment, to help deprived communities and support millions receive quality education, said Mohammad Al Gergawi, Secretary-General of MBRGI.

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) combines under its umbrella more than 35 humanitarian, social and development initiatives and entities that focus primarily on susceptible and disadvantaged communities across the globe.

Insight into previous Ramadan campaigns by UAE

MBRGI also puts considerable efforts towards promoting a cultural of hope across the Arab world, by actively working to solve urgent humanitarian and development challenges, and investing in human capital as the main source of development.

The Mother’s Endowment campaign builds on the success of previous Ramadan campaigns launched under directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed over the past 4 years, starting with the ’10 Million Meals’ campaign in 2020, helping those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2021 ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign followed next, extending its reach to 20 countries. The ‘1 Billion Meals’ campaign of 2022 distributed meals in 50 countries. Most recently, MBRGI launched ‘1 Billion Meals Endowment‘ in Ramadan 2023.

Despite deepening focus on realising the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda, the fourth objective of quality education faces significant challenges. A recent report by UNESCO said 263 million children globally are currently out of school.
