UAE-Germany bilateral relationship paving the path to a sustainable future

The UAE and Germany maintain intensive diplomatic ties, highlighted by the strategic partnership agreed in 2004. In 2022, during a visit to the UAE, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed agreed to revitalise this strategic partnership.

The countries share a comprehensive strategic partnership that has set forth a path of successful cooperation across different sectors, the Emirati foreign ministry said in a post on X, noting: “Together, we contribute to a sustainable future.”

UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed recently paid a working visit to Germany, discussing a number of files of common interest and the latest developments in the Middle East, besides regional and international developments.

UAE-Germany bilateral ties reaching greater heights

His Highness and Annalena Baerbock, the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany, discussed the cooperation relations and comprehensive strategic partnership and ways to develop them to support the development goals of both countries.

The talks also covered the current developments in the Middle East, notably the Gaza crisis and its surroundings and its security and humanitarian repercussions. The Emirati minister stressed the importance of a sustainable ceasefire and urgent humanitarian response.

During the trip, Sheikh Abdullah also met with several German businessmen and CEOs of German companies, and discussed aspects of cooperation in the fields of economy and the environment, which offer remarkable opportunities for investment partnerships.

Staggering volume of non-oil bilateral trade

In addition, Sheikh Abdullah and Dr Robert Habeck, Vice Chancellor and German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, reviewed the economic relations between their countries and ways to develop them even further.

His Highness also hosted a reception for Emirati students in Germany, several Emiratis receiving treatment in the country and many Germans who have lived in the UAE. He highlighted his keenness to offer the students all forms of support and care.

Official statistics suggest there are 335 German companies in the UAE and 37 UAE companies in Germany. Furthermore, the volume of non-oil bilateral trade is expected to reach €12 billion, representing of staggering 30% increase since 2022.
