The 7th edition of the prestigious Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST 2024) kickstarted on Friday at the iconic Al Majaz Amphitheatre in Sharjah, under the patronage of HH Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, chairperson of Sharjah Women Sports.

The tournament is a celebration of athletic prowess and female empowerment. It is expected to lure 560 skilled women athletes from 15 Arab countries, promising fierce competition from February 2 to 12 across eight sports including volleyball, shooting and archery.

AWST 2024 inauguration ceremony: Key details

The opening ceremony will be attended by distinguished representatives, personalities and prominent sports figures from across the Emirates and the broader region. The inauguration is expected to feature an array of artistic, cultural and entertaining performances.

The ceremony is preparing for a vibrant display as teams proudly hoist the flags of their respective Arab countries, accompanied by captivating visual retrospectives of the games highlights, noted Zawya news agency in a report on Thursday.
