Baghdad International Fair marks major regional participation, features Saudi as guest of honour

Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, the Prime Minister of Iraq, inaugurated the 47th edition of the Baghdad International Fair on January 10. The event, set to conclude on January 19, has marked substantial regional and international participation, alongside global companies.

Saudi Arabia serves as the guest of honour and the official sponsor. In his opening speech, the Iraqi leader expressed gratitude to the Kingdom for its extensive support. He highlighted Iraq’s commitment to engaging in a phase of reconstruction and economic development.

Fostering genuine partnerships between Iraqi and international sectors

Simultaneously, Iraqi Minister of Trade, Atheer Al-Ghurairi, acknowledged the Gulf state as the guest of honour during the fair’s launch, emphasising the significant collaborative opportunities across several domains between the two countries.

Riyadh received appreciation for its support and involvement in Iraq. Speaking to Shafaq news agency, Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Muhammad Hanoun elaborated: “Saudi Arabia serves as the official sponsor, contributing 140 companies.”

The 47th Baghdad International Fair boasts more than 850 companies from 20 countries. Hanoun detailed the participating nations, highlighting Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Oman, Egypt Palestine and the UAE from the Arab world.

Spain, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Pakistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan and the Philippines are among the 12 foreign attendees. “The Fair runs for 10 days,” the spokesperson added, underscoring Iraq’s aim to foster genuine partnerships between Iraqi and international private sectors.

Several deals are expected to be concluded at the ongoing exhibition, amid participants also exchanging substantial experiences. The latest edition of the event is unique in terms of the number of participating countries. The figure has reached a notable 20 this year.

Meanwhile, more than 220 Iraqi companies from different sectors such as electricity, telecommunications, healthcare and medical equipment, agriculture, food industry, clothing, fashion, banking, tourism and advertising are also taking part in the Fair.
