'Success Of The EU-UAE Diplomacy At COP28 Goes Beyond Bilateral Relations'

The COP28 conference the UAE hosted from November 30 to December 12 has now concluded. It appears the global community can now take a breath of relief, having achieved notable milestones in the fight against climate change.

For the first time since nations across the globe started meeting three decades ago to confront the climate crisis, an agreement allowing us to set in motion an irreversible transition away from polluting fossil fuels was adopted.

EU and UAE Demonstrate Collaborative Leadership

This year’s Summit marked a crucial turning point in our commitment to safeguard the planet for future generations. The discussions demonstrated the power of international collaboration. Indeed nations must come together to yield positive results.

HE Mohamed Al Sahlawi, the UAE Ambassador to the EU, highlighted: “I’m proud to witness the fruits of our joint efforts and the diplomatic success that unfolded in the spirit of collaboration between nations worldwide, and particularly with our European Union partners.”

The EU and the UAE demonstrated collaborative leadership. The shared dedication to emissions reduction goals, and ambitious timelines for achieving net-zero emissions, revealed a common understanding of the urgency of addressing climate challenges.

But There Is Still A Lot More Progress To Make

Ambassador Al Sahlawi underscored the COP28 outcomes are set to serve as a foundation to further bolster UAE-EU relations, noting the shared commitment to climate action also fosters deeper cooperation in several sectors, including trade, security and cultural exchange.
