Saudi Arabia’s new prison-themed indoor adventure hub opened its doors on December 12 in Park Avenue Mall in Riyadh for people from the age of 8, aiming to “enhance social skills, communication and cognitive functions.”
The CEO of the venture, Marwan Shazali, said the decision to open in the capital city was due primarily to the fact that the “entertainment industry in Saudi Arabia is undergoing a remarkable transformation,” Arab News reported.
Going “Beyond Traditional Entertainment”
Shazali sought to highlight the increasing interest in experiential and immersive entertainment, adding Prison Island aligns perfectly with the trend, offering a unique and engaging experience that caters to a wide range of age groups.
The theme park is ideal for team building, school trips or birthdays. Participants engage in challenges that test their physical, technical and tactical skills. Teams earn points and the highest scorer claims the coveted title of ‘Prison Boss’.
The realistic prison-like setting boasts 35 cells. The chief executive said Prison Island goes “beyond traditional entertainment”, noting the interactive challenges foster teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
“The physical aspect of the challenges encourages movement and coordination, contributing to a holistic recreational experience that combines both mental and physical well-being,” he added, highlighting the adventure hub had been receiving positive feedback.
Key To Leaving Prison Island Triumphantly?
Unlike traditional escape rooms, Prison Island let’s its participants have the control. They can tackle the meticulously designed 35 themed cells in any order and retry any challenge as many times as they want. The cells vary in difficulty.

The key to leaving the escape room triumphantly? Unity. Teammates must work cohesively to score as many points as possible by conquering all challenges before the clock runs out. Most participants spend a minimum of two hours on their inaugural visit.
