The UAE capital is embracing green technology and the power or innovation to boost disabled access at a number of its beaches. Solar-powered tracks – fitted with a chair and designed by Greek company Seatrac – shall now help beachgoers easily reach the sea.
The cutting-edge technology is set to be introduced at Corniche Public Beach, Corniche Sahil Beach, Corniche Family Beach, Al Bateen Public Beach and Al Bateen Ladies’ Beach. In fact, the device has already been introduced at more than 200 beaches in Greece.
Creating A More Inclusive Society
In the Emirati capital, the Department of Municipalities and Transport has joined forces with Mubadala, a sovereign investor, to put in place remote control-operated ramps that allow people with disabilities to enjoy the waters without assistance.
People can now use the rails of the ramp to lower themselves into the sea and lift themselves back into the chair. The innovative initiative is part of the UAE government’s goals to create a more inclusive society for people in need of assistance.
Dr Salem Al Kaabi, director general of operational affairs at the DMT, said: “As we join forces with Mubadala, our partnership is more than a collaboration – it’s a shared commitment to elevate Abu Dhabi’s quality of life.”
Improving Public Spaces
Meanwhile, Homaid Al Shimmari, Mubadala’s deputy group chief executive and chief corporate and human capital officer, highlighted the company’s “unwavering commitment” to create a positive impact in the communities it serves.

The beach plan comes in line with efforts by the DMT and Mubadala to improve public spaces. Under the partnership, parks in Abu Dhabi shall soon have 26 freshwater drinking fountains, in a drive to reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles.
