Lebanese singer and actress Najah Salam, known for her patriotic songs, has passed away at the age of 92. Her daughter, Samar Salman Al Otaifi, announced her mother’s passing on Facebook, saying that Najah Mama is now in God’s arms.

Najah Salam was famous in many Arab countries and received an Oscar from the Society Honoring Giants of Arab Art in the United States in 1995.

She was born on March 13, 1931, in Beirut, and her father, Muhyiddin Salam, was a renowned composer and oud player in Lebanon and the Arab world. Najah learned to sing from her father, who had a home filled with art.

Salam began performing at school concerts and, in 1948, her father took her to Cairo, where she met famous artists like Umm Kulthum, Farid Al-Atrash, and Asmahan. In 1949, she became a professional singer, performing in cities like Aleppo, Damascus, and Baghdad.

She returned to Lebanon to record songs for the radio and made her film debut in “How Are You” with Laila Fawzi.

In 1956, she gained fame for her patriotic songs, including “O Most Precious Name in Existence” and “I am the Nile, a Cemetery for Invaders.”

She later starred in movies with actors like Shukri Sarhan, Muhammad Salman, Souad Hosni, and Kamal El Shenawy. She also performed concerts in Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt.

Najah Salam traveled to Jordan, Iraq, Algeria, Tunisia, and Cannes for her music and acting career. In 1973, she sang “Syria, My Love” with Muhammad Salman and Muhammad Jamal in Syria.

Najah Salam’s legacy as a beloved singer and actress lives on, and her patriotic songs continue to be cherished by many.
