Gloriously standing atop the golden sands of the Arabian desert on the Persian Gulf, Dubai is paradise on Earth for tourists all over the world. It is also referred to as the city of Superlatives due to its high skyscrapers, old world charm, beautiful markets, and extreme temperatures.

Here we are going to look into ten things that are prohibited to do in this Paradise city.

1. Do not use left hand to shake hands

If you are visiting Dubai, refrain from shaking hands with the left hand or doing anything with the left hand, for example giving gifts, eating food with the left hand or greeting someone with the left hand and so on. This is due to the fact that in countries like UAE and India the left hand was used earlier to clean up before the advent of toilet paper and flushing water.

2. Do not indulge in PDA

Indulging in public displays of affection generally called PDA is strictly prohibited in Dubai. PDAs consist of hugging, kissing, holding hands and other similar behaviours. Foreigners have already suffered the heat due to this as they are generally used to showing these openly.

3. Do not play loud music

Playing loud music is another activity that you should avoid doing in Dubai. Locals do not like it generally and can lodge complaints against those who do these things. Anyone playing loud music can land up in a police station in Dubai.

4. Do not dress inappropriately

Dressing sense should be well and anyone going out in public should be careful covering both their limbs properly ensuring that the clothes are loose and comfortable in nature. It shouldn’t be short, skimpy and tight.

5. Do not cuss in Public

Using foul language in public is prohibited and is a punishable offence. The public and tourists should know about this and refrain from cursing publicly. If found, it can lead to imposing fines and legal charges against the individual.

6. Do not carry all your medicines

UAE has a strict anti-drug policy and for those who carry their medicines along with them, it is a straight no for them. If you by mistake take all meds with you, and get caught, it can lead up to four years in a UAE prison.

7. Do not take photos without permission

One essential point to note while in Dubai is to ask permission from people before taking pictures of them. A person should be very careful while clicking pictures in the city as locals have a sense of modesty and safety and it would be a precautionary measure to ask their permission before clicking snaps of them to stay away from trouble if it is acutely needed.

8. Do not eat in Public during Ramadan

Eating in public is not allowed during Ramadan in Dubai or anywhere in the Middle East. It is forbidden to eat, smoke and even drink water in Public during roza timings. After iftar everyone can eat and drink as they wish but during roza timings they can’t do the same. 

9. Do not bring prohibited items

A person should be extra cautious while packing his/her luggage before travelling to Dubai. They should refrain from bringing bacon, ham and pork items along with adult content including women’s fashion magazines.

10. Do not disrespect the Royal Family in public

No one should openly disrespect the royal family by mocking, criticising, or insulting them. It is a grievous crime and can lead the accused person behind bars for a long time period.
