Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, the Prime Minister of Yemen’s internationally recognised government has stepped down from his position as the leader citing “lots of difficulties” in governing the nation and in reshuffling the government.

In a statement released on Saturday, Ahmed bin Mubarak revealed he had submitted his resignation from the head of Yemen following his conflict with Rashad Al-Alimi, the head of the country’s presidential council. The two diplomats weren’t seeing eye to eye regarding the revamping of the cabinet as the Prime Minister was refused by the latter in depposing 12 ministers, sources from Reuters stated.

Mubarak stated the reasons behind his decision as, “to take necessary decisions to reform several state institutions”. The former foreign minister was appointed as the Prime Minister from February 2024 after holding other diplomatic positions such as Presidential Chief of Staff, also the post when he was kidnapped by Iran based Houthi militia in 2015.

The decision also comes in parallel to the continuing airstrikes that began in March, the first and prominent attack after Trump took office.
