The UAE on Friday sent an aid plane carrying 13 tonnes of essential food to Chad to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of Sudanese refugees in Chad.

In addition, aid will be scaled up to support local communities in Chad, prioritizing vulnerable groups such as patients, children, women and the elderly, Wam said.

Deputy Minister for Development and International Organizations Sultan Al Shamsi said the UAE’s compassionate move was under the wise guidance of the country’s leaders. This is a symbol of the UAE’s consistent efforts to provide assistance to affected civilians in Sudan and its neighboring regions. “Our commitment is unwavering and our approach is to stand by the international community during particularly difficult times,” he stressed.

Al-Shamsi said UAE efforts in recent months have included food and medical aid to the Amjaras field hospital. The facility provides medical care to both Sudanese refugees and local residents in Chad, and plays an important role in meeting the humanitarian needs created by the surge in Sudanese refugees. Since its founding, the hospital has treated 3,509 cases.

Al-Shamsi further noted the recent establishment of the UAE Foreign Aid Coordination Office in Amjarras to assist the Chadian people and provide comprehensive humanitarian and relief assistance specifically tailored to the needs of Sudanese refugees in Chad.
