UAE President renews vow for climate action on National Environment Day

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed has pledged support to the nation’s dedication to enhance environmental sustainability and global action on the occasion of National Environment Day.

Taking to social media platform X, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed renewed the country’s determination to protect the environment and preserve its resources for future generations.

“On National Environment Day, we draw inspiration from our history of sustainable progress and renew our determination to protect the environment and preserve its resources for future generations,” Sheikh Mohamed wrote in a post on the platform.

“The UAE remains committed to supporting international climate action efforts and promoting collective responsibility towards shared global challenges,” he added.

The UAE marks National Environment Day on February 4 every year, reaffirming its commitment to environmental responsibility in line with global efforts to enhance conservation. With this occasion, the UAE also calls for collection action, encouraging participation in environmental protection, raising awareness, promoting social responsibility and supporting sustainable innovations.

According to the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the theme of the 28th National Environment Day is ‘Our Heritage … Our Future’ – to draw historical sustainability practices to inspire future generations.

“The community is the cornerstone of the country’s long-term development plans, and every individual must be fully aware and equipped to contribute to enhancing the UAE’s position as a global leader in sustainability and the future,” Dr Amna Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, said announcing the theme of this year’s National Environment Day.

UAE leads in sustainable efforts

The UAE has taken up a vast number of efforts to advance green initiatives through investments in renewable energy and reduce environmental impact. One such example is the Zayed Sustainability Prize launched in 2008 with the aim of rewarding and recognizing innovative humanitarian projects. With such initiatives, the UAE government calls on all residents to actively participate in global climate action efforts.

The UAE is also pursuing the goals of the UAE Net Zero 2050 strategy to secure a sustainable future for coming generations and develop a leading global model for sustainability across various national sectors.

Additionally, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) launched a public consultation initiative to address air quality and noise pollution in the emirate. By gathering community feedback on policies, regulations, and strategies, the initiative aims to improve the health and quality of life for residents.

This year’s National Environment Day also falls in line with Sheikh Mohamed’s declaration of 2025 as the Year of Community, highlighting the role of communities in boosting national growth and development.
