BTS fans in the UAE, as well as around the world, are reeling with excitement this week after Jin, the eldest member of BTS, completed his obligatory military service in South Korea. Jin’s discharge was on June 12, 2024, which was the start of the gradual reopening and return of BTS now that Jin is back home.
Jin’s departure was heartfelt for everyone involved, as the other members of BTS were at the military base in Yeoncheon to meet him. RM even decided to serenade Jin with the saxophone version of “Dynamite,” which was personal and emotional. Even though it was not a public ceremony, the members greeted, hugged, took pictures, and soon after celebrated together in Seoul.
Finding out about Jin’s return has raised hopes for fans, especially in the UAE, where fan groups are actively working to get BTS to perform. Locally, there is a startup called Springs 15 that recently started a BTS-based street art project across Dubai. The works of art they created are part of a larger fan-based movement, organized by a group called Kids of Arabia, aimed at attracting attention from the band or, at the very least, showing the band gratitude for their support.
Although Jin will be the first to complete his military duty, J-hope will exit military service in October 2024. The other members are expected to return by mid-2025 With Jin back and fan projects building in the UAE, excitement builds that BTS might now plan a concert in the area and connect to their fans globally in one location.
