UAE marks 2025 as the year of community: All you need to know

In a major development, UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has declared 2025 as the “Year of Community.” The announcement comes as a prominent strategic shift from the last two years’ emphasis on sustainability. The UAE aims to underscore the country’s commitment to strengthening social bonds and fostering inclusive growth in the Emirates and worldwide. 

The initiative, announced through the UAE President’s official social media account, encourages people to adopt a collaborative approach towards community building. “Hand in hand, we will work to strengthen social bonds, foster shared responsibility, and unlock potential for inclusive and sustainable growth,” stated Sheikh Mohamed, highlighting the significance of collective action in achieving nationwide goals.

As part of the Year of Community initiative, various programs and activities will be launched, particularly during the Holy Month of Ramadan. This timing holds special significance, as Ramadan highlights community values, charitable giving, and social solidarity in line with this year’s theme.

The initiative also calls on all residents of the UAE, and not just citizens, to reflect on various aspects of community development, ranging from strengthening family bonds to promoting social cohesion. The focus on “inclusive and sustainable growth” aims to provide social development and sustainability to create a comprehensive approach to national progress.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, also reinforced the vision of collective action and the fundamental role of community in the country’s development. “The foundation of our nation’s strength lies in a united community, where individuals are connected, and care is extended to each other,” he said. 

This initiative has been established on the premise of the UAE’s previous focus on sustainability, which achieved unprecedented attention as the first cause to be dedicated for two consecutive years under Sheikh Mohamed’s presidency.
