In implementation of the directives of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, President of the UAE, the Gulf state has launched a national relief campaign to support Lebanon and its people in light of the ongoing field escalation, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
Based on the order of His Highness to provide an urgent humanitarian relief package amounting to $100 million to Lebanon, the UAE sent an aid plane carrying 40 tonnes of urgent medical supplies on Friday. This plane is the first to land in Lebanon as part of the campaign.
UAE’s humanitarian efforts for Lebanese people
The UAE has been expressing its deep concern about the increasing escalation in Lebanon and the consequences of the dangerous situation and its impact on regional stability. The country has also affirmed its support for the Lebanese people facing challenges.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nation has adopted a firm position for Lebanon’s unity, national sovereignty and territorial integrity – and has been calling for intensified global efforts to stop the escalation to prevent bloodshed and protect civilians.
The dispatch of the aid plane on Friday highlights the UAE’s humanitarian efforts to support the brotherly Lebanese people. It reflects the Emirates’ vision and the principles of historical brotherhood in providing relief supplies in times of crisis.
Beginning of UAE’s response to crisis in Lebanon
Her Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim al-Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, noted that the ongoing efforts support the keenness of the UAE leadership to provide urgent humanitarian support across the globe.
Emphasising the values of solidarity and cooperation, she stressed that the aid plane is the beginning of the UAE’s response to the escalating situation in Lebanon, explaining that the Gulf state is continuing to provide all possible aid to alleviate people’s sufferings.
