The Youth Social Missions Programme has been introduced by the Federal Youth Authority (FYA) for developing young Emiratis who can appropriately contribute and integrate into international humanitarian, developmental, and cultural missions. This initiative falls under the “Society and Values” pillar of the UAE Youth National Agenda 2031 as it hopes to encourage global volunteerism and sustainable development.
The programme was launched in Japan and seeks to establish skilled national youth to positively engage in international missions. It promotes the values of generosity and community responsibility and the need for collaboration internationally. Such values are intrinsic to Emirati identity.
Empowering Youth as Global Ambassadors
The FYA Director, Khaled Al Nuaimi, noted the incredible humanitarian legacy of the UAE, led by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He labelled the programme an important vision and strategic step in fostering the UAE’s global impact through youth engagement.
- Humanitarian missions in disaster-affected areas
- Developmental missions to build schools and/or climate projects
- Representing Emiratis abroad for cultural exchange to foster Emirati identity
Youth participants will develop invaluable leadership skills, communication skills, and crisis response skills that will be useful for any future international missions. Youth will also receive the title of “Humanitarian Work Ambassadors,” official certificates, and publicity for their effort.
There are three key symbols of success in this programme: globally-focused face-to-face hands-on training experience; discussions and work in global forums with people and leaders from all over the world; and partnerships (local and international) to provide opportunities to engage in outcomes that matter or create a social impact. The three-pronged approach to empower youth is not dissimilar to the “youth-centred” approach, creating positive global change through the lens of their local or regional community.
