UAE-India partnership transcends mere economic ties: Let’s understand

In a generation of global uncertainty, the UAE-India bilateral relationship stands as a strong symbol of stability and progress. Their relationship transcends mere economic cooperation. It is a partnership seeking shared prosperity and global leadership.

The UAE-India bilateral relationship is globally prominent for its deep-rooted nature. Both countries share interest in areas such as economic and sustainable relations, trade, climate action, and promoting global stability and peace.

The friendly countries are becoming a global model of reliable cooperation, focusing on different areas of mutual interest. This kind of relationship is ideal in the current era of uncertainties and conflicts.

Deepening UAE-India bilateral relationship in focus

The UAE-India bilateral relationship is based on a long history of meetings, beginning in January 1975 as the UAE’s Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan made a historic visit to India, meeting the then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Sheikh Zayed also visited India in 1992. In January 2017, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed visited the country, marking a turning point in bilateral relations. This resulted in the signing of more than a dozen agreements and memoranda of understanding.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited the UAE numerous times since assuming his current role, including in 2015 on his First official visit, then in February 2018, 2019, June 2022, July 2023, December 2023 and February 2024.

On February 18, 2022, the UAE-India bilateral relationship reached greater heights as both sides agreed to enhance their comprehensive strategic partnership, focusing on major areas such as the economy, clean energy, technology and skills, and defence and security.

Emirati leadership supporting Indian community in UAE

The UAE and India have also signed a comprehensive economic partnership agreement, seeking to bolster investment and trade based on reduced tariffs and greater regulatory efficiency. The Cepa stands to boost bilateral non-oil trade to $100 billion by 2030.

Both countries share deep-rooted cultural relations. Indian PM Modi recently received the UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed. The Prime Minister thanked the Emirati leadership for supporting the large and vibrant Indian community in the UAE.
