HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has paid a working visit to Germany, highlighting the two nations are linked by strong and developed relations based on understanding, cooperation, mutual respect and common interests.
The recent visit reflects the keenness to strengthen the relations of friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the UAE and Germany, besides discussion topics of common interest, the latest developments in the Middle East and global events.
Exploring ways to enhance bilateral cooperation
His Highness met Jens Plötner, Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to the German Federal Chancellor, and a delegation from the Foreign Affairs Committee in the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag), headed by Chairman of the Committee Michael Roth.
The discussions covered the friendly ties and comprehensive strategic partnership between the Emirates and Germany, and ways to enhance areas of bilateral cooperation to serve the mutual interests of the two nations and their citizens.
Gaza crisis: Ceasefire and urgent humanitarian response
Sheikh Abdullah and Annalena Baerbock, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany, also discussed the existing relations and ways to develop them to support the development goals of both countries. His Highness expressed his happiness at his visit to Germany.
The parties also discussed developments in the Middle East, dominated by the Gaza crisis and its security and humanitarian repercussions. Sheikh Abdullah stressed the need to bolster efforts to reach a sustainable ceasefire and ensure urgent humanitarian response.
His Highness affirmed that the Israel-Hamas war requires strengthening of multilateral efforts to address its repercussions, pointing out UAE’s commitment to cooperate with all active parties in the international community to end extremism and provide protection.
During the meetings, the UAE Foreign Minister renewed his emphasis on the importance of finding a strong political solution to resume negotiations with the aim of achieving comprehensive peace based on the “two-state solution”.
Economic ties between UAE and Germany
On the trip, His Highness also met Dr Robert Habeck, Vice Chancellor and German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. They reviewed the economic ties between the UAE and Germany and ways to develop them further.
In addition, Sheikh Abdullah also held discussions with several German businessmen and CEOs of German companies, besides hosting a reception for Emirati students studying in Germany, Emiratis receiving treatment there and Germans who have lived in the UAE.
