UAE employs drones for Ramadan moon sighting

In a global first, the UAE is set to sight the crescent marking the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan using drones. These artificial-intelligence-supported drones extend the concept of direct visual observation – the primary method for Ramadan moon sighting.

This groundbreaking change highlights the UAE’s leadership in adopting technological solutions. This method compliments traditional naked eyesighting accounts and advanced astronomical observatories across the country.

The Ministry announces a reduction of 2 working hours per day for private sector employees during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
