UAE: Digital School's 'Donate Your Own Device' campaign collects 32,000 devices for underprivileged students

One of the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives, ‘Digital School’ recently announced that the “Donate Your Own Device” campaign has managed to collect over 32,000 electronic devices to support underprivileged students’ digital education journey.

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, UAE Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, launched the Digital School in November 2020. The entity targets less privileged societies, refugees and displaced persons, using modern educational materials and curricula.

The Digital School has more than 160,000 beneficiaries and provides its services in at least 13 countries, included Jordan, Egypt, Madagascar Zambia, Bangladesh, Colombia, Lebanon, Mauritania, Afghanistan, Angola, Namibia and Lesotho.

UAE residents backing sustainability and digital education

The Digital School adopts a comprehensive approach to digital transformation in education and has already trained over 2,500 digital teachers, besides providing educational and training content in four different languages: Arabic, English, French and Spanish.

Electronic devices collected as part of the “Donate Your Own Device” campaign included 36% computers, tablets and smartphones; 30% other electronic devices such as printers, screens and projectors; and 34% electronic devices accessories.

The devices are set to be refurbished or recycled in an environmentally safe manner. The success of the campaign and the notable contributions reflect the importance of ‘giving’ among Emirati residents and their keenness to promote sustainable practices.

Campaign seeing great interaction since launch

The promising campaign represents a significant partnership for education and sustainability. It serves as a global model for effectively addressing the numerous pressing challenges engulfing the field of digital education in recent years.

Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Digital School, commended the great interaction that the campaign has seen since its launch.

Furthermore, the announcement supports objectives of the ‘Global Recycling Day‘ observed on March 18. The Day seeks to bring the spotlight on the role recycling plays in preserving the planet’s precious primary resources and securing the future of all living organisms.
