The brutal Israel-Hamas fighting erupted on October 7 as Hamas militants launched a surprise attack on Israeli cities, killing some 1,200 people and taking several others hostages. Israeli retailiatory strikes, on the other hand, have already claimed over 38,000 lives.
The UAE is striving to assist as many people as possible in the Gaza Strip by providing crucial humanitarian aid. The fourth aid ship departed from the Port of Fujairah on Monday for Gaza, carrying 5,340 tonnes of supplies, as part of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3.
Under the initiative, the UAE has already launched numerous initiatives, including the establishment of a couple of field hospitals to provide much-needed medical assistance to injured Gazans. The Gulf state has also established five automatic bakeries.
UAE trying to mitigate catastrophic situation in Gaza
Independent UN experts declared on Tuesday that the recent deaths of more Palestinian children due to hunger and malnutrition leave no doubt that famine has already spread across the entire Gaza Strip, according to a press release.
The UAE’s generous efforts are aimed at mitigating the catastrophic situation resulting from the cessation of aid to the besieged enclave. Prior to the fourth aid ship’s departure, the Gulf state also distributed food supplies to displaced families in Khan Younis.
Under the Chivalrous Knight 3 operation, the UAE provided a range of essential food items, including chicken, bread, dates, fresh vegetables and comprehensive food parcels to support needy displaced families. The relief campaign reached 9,000 beneficiaries.
Reducing tensions, countering extremism, halting violence
In the earlier part of the conflict, UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed issued directives to provide medical treatment for 1,000 injured children and 1,000 cancer patients from the Gaza Strip at Emirati hospitals.
The 18th group of Palestinian children and cancer patients, and those accompanying them, arrived on July 5 in the UAE. It’s part of the GCC nation’s commitment to provide treatment to the Gazans to alleviate the humanitarian suffering they are experiencing.
The UAE values the importance of reducing tensions, countering extremism and halting escalating violence in the Middle East as the country seeks a serious political process to resume negotiations aimed at achieving comprehensive peace in the territory.
UAE’s call for immediate and lasting Gaza ceasefire
On behalf of President HH Sheikh Mohamed, HH Sheikh Saud bin Saqr, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras al Khaimah, participated on July 4 in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Kazakhstan as the head of the UAE delegation.
In his speech during the Summit, His Highness reiterated the UAE’s call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ensuring quick and intensified delivery of humanitarian aid, highlighting the need to identify a clear path and achieve just peace.
Besides the Chivalrous Knight 3 operation, the Joint Operations Command has also launched Operation ‘Birds of Goodness’ to airdrop supplies to isolated areas in Gaza that cannot be reached by land. The total amount of aid dropped so far is 3,382 tonnes.
