UAE continues to provide winter aid to countries in need

The UAE has been continuously working on mitigating the repercussions of winter and bitter cold on a wide segment of people around the world, particularly for the displaced people and refugees who were forced to leave their homes in live in tents amid political crisis.

With the onset of winter this year, the UAE launched a series of humanitarian and relief campaigns to deliver necessary relief goods to protect those affected from the repercussions of harsh winters in many countries. As part of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 and the spirit of the UAE leadership and its people, Emirati authorities have carried out multiple relief measures to distribute winter clothing and other essentials to the people living in shelter camps in the southern Gaza Strip.

The Emirati campaign aimed at distributing winter essentials to the largest gathering of displaced people south of Al-Aqsa University in Khan Yunis, benefiting 12,500 people.

The UAE delivered winter clothing, tents, waterproof covers, jackets, blankets and gloves to help Palestinian children and families affected by the situation in the Gaza Strip and to mitigate their suffering.

Emirates Red Crescent Authority

The Emirati authorities have been working with the Emirates Red Crescent Authority (ERC) to implement the winter assistance program and help the vulnerable segments in countries struggling with the cold weather.

Last November, the authorities launched a winter assistance campaign that benefits 250,000 people around the world. The campaign aimed at reducing the impact of cold weather, especially in countries hosting refugees.

As part of the campaign, the UAE distributed large quantities of food and health parcels, winter clothing, heating devices, blankets, children’s supplies and other shelter materials.

On December 22, the ERC implemented the “Winter Clothing” campaign in various remote in the Yemeni province of Shabwa to provide necessary winter clothes and other essentials to the poorest families, the displaced and nomads affected by the extreme cold.

Hamad Al Neyadi, Head of the UAE Relief Mission, stated that the UAE, under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is working on providing food, medicine, and shelter tents to support Gaza’s residents.

In Albania, the ERC distributed winter aid to more than 2,400 beneficiaries across multiple counties, including wood-burning heaters and blankets to help individuals cope with the freezing temperatures.

The ERC also carried out a winter relief campaign for those affected by the severe cold and snow wave in Kazakhstan, providing humanitarian assistance to 7,500 beneficiaries.

Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation

In October, the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation instituted the winter bag initiative, increasing the number of beneficiaries to 50,000 from 20,000 last winter.

This year, around 19 countries, including Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Iraq, Syria, Gaza, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Tatarstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tanzania, Mongolia, Nepal, Afghanistan, and Kosovo, have benefitted from the UAE’s winter aid efforts. 

Dubai Charity Association

Additionally, the Dubai Charity Association launched the “Warm their winter with your generosity” campaign to help over the 2024-2025 winter in several countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe, with the help of local representatives.

The campaign helped provide essential winter supplies to families, such as blankets, winter clothing, fuel, coal, heaters, water heaters, and mosque heating networks.

Sharjah Charity Association

Sharjah Charity Association launched the “Dathironi” campaign in Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina to protect more than 7,000 beneficiaries in both countries from freezing temperatures. With support from Dubai Islamic Bank as its humanitarian partner, the association helped distribute heavy clothing, blankets, and various heating supplies to shield them from the severe cold.
