RDASheikha Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, and Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia’s Prime Minister witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) set to strengthen investment cooperation in the artificial intelligence area as well as the technological cooperation between the UAE and Malaysia.
The agreement seeks to support the Malaysia Madani Artificial Intelligence (MMAI) initiative. The partnership will leverage AI and advanced data analytics to enhance national security, community safety, and operational efficiencies across both nations.
The MoU will see the two countries promoting technical cooperation in several key areas, including the development of AI-driven national security systems, the establishment of high-performance computing data centers, and improvements in customs tax collection and other operational processes.
Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi emphasized the importance of collaboration to help foster technological innovation for sustainable development speaking at the event. “This MoU represents a significant step toward enhancing cooperation in artificial intelligence and operational efficiency contributing to the well-being of our societies and improving quality of life for our communities,” he said.
Saifuddin Nasution Ismail highlighted Malaysia’s ambition to become a global leader in AI. “This partnership with the UAE represents a crucial step in advancing Malaysia’s ambitions to become a key player in the global AI landscape,” he said.
The signing of the MoU follows the confirmation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the countries in October 2024. The deal follows a rising economic relationship with the non-oil trade between the two countries rising to $2.5 billion in H1 2024 which is a growth of 7 percent from the same period in 2023.
In other news, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak at Za’abeel Palace in Dubai and discussed ways to extend their strategic cooperation, especially within the fields of renewable energy, food security, technology and data centers.
