UAE’s airlines are expanding their networks and rolled out 50 new routes in June to meet summer travel demand. With the Eid holidays approaching and the summer holidays not far behind, low-cost airlines are looking to take back their regional skies.

Air Arabia and Flydubai are leading the charge, ramping up flights to Saudi Arabia on the cusp of the Eid holidays. Air Arabia has resumed direct services from Sharjah to Taif, Al Jouf, Gassim, and Hail which now brings its total number of routes to 11 Saudi destinations. flydubai has restarted services to Ha’il and Tabuk and is the only UAE carrier licensed to operate in AlUla – the UNESCO Heritage Site of Hegra lies in AlUla.

flights are also increasing to destinations in India, Egypt, Turkey, and Morocco. Air Arabia’s Abu Dhabi joint venture has launched new routes to India, including Mumbai, which started service three times weekly beginning May 12. Filing for summer growth is also Etihad and Emirates, which are adding flights to Rome, Malaga, Santorini, Bogota, and Antananarivo among other routes to address summer travel demand. This growth has been fueled by fleet expansions: Air Arabia continues to take deliveries of an additional 120 Airbus A320neo family aircraft that will double the size of its fleet while Flydubai is taking delivery of an additional 20 Boeing 737 MAX 8 by the end of the year. With over 92% of residents in the UAE intending to take trips during the summer period, as noted by Skyscanner, this move aligns very well with what passengers want.
