The year 2025 has been marked by multiple humanitarian crises across the globe – caused by armed conflicts, political instability, climate disasters and economic collapse. Millions of people are trapped in brutal situations.

The need for food, shelter and other basic supplies is getting scarcer in some parts of the globe. Many of these humanitarian crises are protracted, lasting for years. There is no clear resolution. Others are sudden-onset emergencies triggered by multiple reasons.

Countries facing humanitarian crises in 2025

1. Sudan

More than 14 million people are internally displaced and many more are facing hunger. This is an internal conflict featuring the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. Large parts of Darfur, Khartoum and Kordofan remain inaccessible on many days.

2. Gaza

Millions of people in Gaza are in need of urgent relief supplies. The majority of the population is displaced. Food insecurity has reached terrible numbers and health systems are on the brink of collapse. The need for a ceasefire is getting more urgent.

3. Yemen

Nearly 80% of the population of Yemen (19.5 million people) is in strong need of assistance. Years of conflict has significantly crippled the economy of the country. Blockades and inflation make basic goods inaccessible and unaffordable.

4. Ethiopia

Ethiopia’s humanitarian crisis features armed conflict, disease outbreaks and drought. Nearly 10 million people are in urgent need of aid. Fighting, droughts and outbreaks of cholera have deteriorated living conditions in rural and urban areas alike.

5. Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

More than 21 million people are in need of humanitarian aid in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Continued conflict in the east has uprooted communities and epidemics such as measles and cholera are spreading.
