You must know the famous Hollywood actress Halle Berry who is known for her remarkable roles in the movies like ‘X-Men’ and ‘Bruised.’
A few of her comments against Drake on social media drew people’s attention on Sunday. Drake is a Canadian rapper and also a celebrity in the music industry.
What actually happened last weekend is that Drake used a picture of Halle Berry covered in green slime. He took this picture from the 2012 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. He used her photo as the cover art for his new song called ‘Slime You Out,’ featuring another artist, SZA.
This incident created a short Hollywood drama as Drake hadn’t asked Halle Berry for permission to use her photo.
See, when you want to use someone’s photograph for commercial purposes, including promoting your song, you must ask the permission of a relatable person. This is an obvious unethical act and it falls in a legal act.
Undoubtedly, Halle Berry isn’t happy with it. Thus she posted on Instagram and made a humorous comment, a hand emoji pointing up saying, “Sometimes you have to be the bigger man. Even if you are a woman.”
Basically she was warning Drake that he should have taken the permission first. Berry could file a legal action against Drake, but she showed her generosity and just warned him on social media.
Probably Halle Berry got to know about this through a netizen who asked her on social media about what she thought of Drake’s cover art.
Berry clarified that she was unaware of it and Drake didn’t ask her permission. She shared that Drake disappointed her, she expected better from him.
The photograph was listed on the portal of ‘Getty Images’ which is a portal of visual media and stock images. About this, Berry clarified that it’s not about where the listed photo is, but about the asking permission. People must take legal permission when they use someone’s photograph for a commercial purpose.
However this incident also reminds us of the role of social media in today’s era. Probably Halle Berry wouldn’t know or notice the usage of her image.
But she got to know about this through a social media platform. She also used the platform to express her disappointments, concerns, and warning.
