Strong dedication has positioned UAE at forefront of global efforts to enhance humanitarian support

Established in the UAE in January 2024, the Union Association for Human Rights is participating in the 55th session of the Human Rights Council’s High-Level Segment in Geneva, under the leadership of President Dr Fatima Khalifa Al Kaabi, as per WAM.

The Association has highlighted the need for international protection of civilians during wars, armed conflicts and military operations planning, besides praising the Emirates for its proactive pursuit of peace and its dedication to alleviating civilian suffering.

It applauded the UAE for its prominent humanitarian and relief efforts, including providing vital resources such as food and medicine and delivering healthcare services to vulnerable populations and the injured in different countries and conflict zones.

UAE’s promising humanitarian projects and initiatives

The Association also acknowledged the UAE’s role in shielding civilians from harm through its support provided via different institutions and initiatives. This dedication has pushed the country to the forefront of global efforts to enhance humanitarian support.

It highlighted the Gulf state’s promising projects and initiatives that have bolstered humanitarian support efforts in conflict areas across the globe. These came in a statement issued by the Association, in collaboration with the Arab-European Human Rights Dialogue.

In addition, the entity recommended effective and transparent probes into violations of humanitarian laws, coordinating with relevant agencies to improve humanitarian awareness and training military forces to adhere to the regulations of war.

UAE’s deepening focus on ensuring peace and stability

The session has arrived against a backdrop of deadly chaos in Gaza as the brutal Israel-Hamas conflict rages on for months. The war erupted on October 7 as Hamas militants launched an attack on Israeli cities, killing some 1,200 people and taking many others hostages.

But Israel’s retaliatory strikes on the Palestinian territory have so far claimed at least 31,700 lives and injured more than 73,700 others. The UN food agency has said “famine is imminent” in northern Gaza, where 70% of the population likely faces catastrophic hunger.

In an effort to alleviate the suffering of Gazans, the Emirates has already delivered a substantial amount of relief supplies via hundreds of aircraft and a handful of cargo ships. Dozens of trucks have been mobilised and the majority of them have already entered Gaza.

UAE’s efforts to alleviate sufferings of Gaza population

The GCC nation launched the ‘Gallant Knight 3’ humanitarian operation in November 2023, led by the Joint Operations Command of the Ministry of Defence, to take care of the concerning situation and address the basic requirements of the population.

The UAE is also operating a field hospital in the Gaza Strip. The facility houses 200 beds and over 100 medical professionals, besides offering a diverse range of services such as internal medicine, anaesthesia, surgery and orthopaedics.

The country has also implemented an initiative to treat 1,000 Palestinian cancer patients and 1,000 Palestinian children in UAE hospitals. Moreover, it has established multiple desalination plants and automated bakeries to help meet the daily requirements of Gazans.
