Sheikh Abdullah, Indian EAM Jaishankar discuss strategic ties

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India in Dubai and the two leaders discussed the friendship and strategic ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah extended his congratulations to India on the occasion of Republic Day, wishing continued progress and prosperity for the people of the Asian nation.

Sheikh Abdullah and Dr. Jaishankar also explored potential ways to strengthen collaboration across economic, commercial, investment, and cultural sectors between the UAE and India.

“The visit will provide an opportunity to advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries and add new momentum to the India – UAE relationship,” a statement issued by the India Ministry of External Affairs. 

Sheikh Abdullah and the Indian External Affairs Minister also exchanged views on a number of regional and international developments in both countries.

The Indian minister also addressed an event organized to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s Republic Day in Abu Dhabi, highlighting the strong ties between the two friendly nations. “The world has entered a complicated and volatile phase because the global order is changing for real. These are occasions when new opportunities arise, and true friendships are forged,” he said. 

“As we contemplate the global scenario, there is much that draws our two nations together. I can confidently assert that our collaboration on international platforms will only get stronger,” the minister added.

The minister highlighted that the number of Indians in the has surged from 2.5 million in 2015 to more than 4 million now. “These numbers speak of the warmth and cordiality that today characterizes our relationship.”

Dr. Jaishankar also stressed the rising adoption of local currency trading mechanisms to limit reliance on external currencies and deepen collaboration in financial relations. 

India and UAE have recently taken several crucial measures to enhance their cooperation in key areas of economy and investment. Among the standout achievements of this relationship is the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), aimed at boosting bilateral trade and investments and creating new opportunities for businesses in both countries.
